The objective of this event was to share insights regarding the state of EHR adoption and next-step ideas for New York. Research was provided that illustrates challenges, benefits and opportunities for EHR adoption specific to New York.

NY HIMSS shared 3 reports with each legislator (today) that address current aspects of Health Information Technology in our state (New York).

Specifically, we discussed about the prospect of a state Electronic Health Record (EHR), and the 6 takeaway messages from our most recent report:

1. EHR adoption provides value
2. NYS hospitals have notionally modified the value brought by EHR users
3. Alternatively, significant investments to reach EHR maturity are required for a large share of NYS hospitals
4. EHR maturity in NYS is likely several years away and is needed to reap related benefits and support shared clinical data opportunities
5. NYS officials can well-position EHR adoption
6. HIMSS can be helpful in this process

This issue will continue to be both urgent and complex. HIMSS would like to offer its staff and members as a resource in terms of research and expertise on NY Health Information Technology. Thank you!
